If you are reading this document because a member of your family has passed away; the IC Tallahassee Board wishes to extend their condolences to you and your family. May Allah (swt) have mercy on the deceased and grant him/her among the highest stations of Paradise and keep the family patient in this moment of grief. Please contact the Masjid Board or the Imam for any counseling support that you may require for yourself or other members of your family.

Funeral Procedures:

    1. Contact:
      1. Please contact Br. Salah Bakshwin at 850-559-1643 to inform him of the passing away of your family member and ask him when the funeral prayers can be arranged for the deceased. You should also contact some active brothers and sisters in the community to spread the word of the funeral prayer.

 

  1. Funeral Home:
    1. Please contact Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home (or any other funeral home of your choice) at 850-877-8191 (day or night) to arrange for the pickup of the body of the deceased. Please have the Death Certificate ready when the funeral professional arrives. The body will be kept in the funeral home, untouched, until arrangements have been made at the Masjid for the ritual washing.
    2. Arrange an appointment with the funeral professional to discuss the burial procedures of the deceased. Please bring the deceased’s Social Security Card and Death Certificate with you.
    3. During the appointment a funeral professional will guide you through the specifics of the burial. Below are some criteria to keep in mind when discussing these specifics:
      1. The body must be buried in the Muslim section of the cemetery
      2. Request the simplest casket for the deceased
      3. Request the body of the deceased to arrive at Masjid Al-Furqan for the ritual washing,
      4. Request the hearse to arrive at Masjid Al-Furqan according to the time arranged

     

  2. Ritual Washing of the Deceased:
    1. Please contact Br. Salah Bakshwin to inform him if you have already made arrangements for someone to wash the deceased. If not, then he will arrange someone for you. The ritual washing takes approximately one hour to complete.

  4. Funeral Prayer and Procession:
    1. The funeral prayer will take place after the ritual washing. The Imam can be requested to lead the funeral prayer if the family wishes.
    2. After the funeral prayer the casket will be placed in the hearse and the funeral procession will continue to the cemetery for burial.
    3. The Imam should be requested to make du’a and give a short talk after the burial.
